INTRODUCTION
When my youngest child Cailie-Ellen was about seven weeks old, she became very fussy, as all newborns do at times. My husband and I tried everything to calm her, but to no avail. As I rocked her, I determined in my
heart to listen to the voice of the Lord for His guidance in helping her. The Lord led me to put her in her swing, but it did not help. Then He led me to turn on the vacuum, it helped for a short while and then she began to cry
again. We felt led to massage her, but again it brought her only temporary relief. Then finally again I felt led to rock her and she soon fell fast asleep.
A bit confused, I questioned the Lord, "Did I miss your
leading previously?" since it seemed as though nothing I felt led to do helped her except what I was doing to begin with. The Lord spoke to me that I did not miss His leading, "but every step was necessary."
Later the Lord brought back this memory to me. It was then that I realized the premise of what God was speaking - that the promise of our destiny is an unfolding process and each step is important to its
fulfillment. Fulfilling our destiny is a journey, and each step of that journey is important.
So often when God speaks a word into our hearts we expect to see the desired results right after doing what He has asked us to
do. We get despondent when we do not see things happen right away. But we need to understand this concept: everything we go through, even our failures, is important to the fulfillment of the promise He has given us. Every step is necessary! There may have been an easier or shorter way, but He is saying everything we go through is important, it has a purpose.
So it is when we give birth in the natural realm to a baby. We cannot expect to give birth the day after the doctor tells us we are expecting a child. The baby must go through stages of development in order to be
healthy. Each stage in the baby's development is important; nothing that we experience during this period is unnecessary, but each step has a purpose. We never look at a newly pregnant woman and judge her fruit by the way she
looks on the outside. We trust that in time she will begin to show and we will see that she will indeed bear a child.
We must begin to see each other prophetically and not judge by what our eyes see. God does not judge us moment by moment, but He looks at our lives from beginning to end. That is why He was able to refer to Gideon as a "mighty warrior" in Judges 6:12, before he had done even a single act of bravery. So it is with us, the day we are born God sees our entire life. He sees the outcome of every trial we face. Because of this, He pushes us on, encourages us and persuades us that going through the trial will be worth it. He encourages us that it is necessary, it is important.
